James Halliday – It's a red-letter day when a Margaret River winemaker asks more for a sauvignon blanc than a chardonnay, though it's a very sophisticated wine. Half the juice free run and fermented in stainless-steel barrels with a specific sauvignon blanc yeast, the other half moderate solids wild fermented in new and used French oak. It's all about texture which relentlessly imposes its thumbprint and fruit fragments – pink grapefruit and apple skin – flying in all directions allied with acidity. Is the price justified?
