Located in Castellina in Chianti in the heart of Chianti Classico, Bibbiano overlooks the Elsa Valley towards Monteriggioni in an area noted for the cultivation of grapes since the time of the Etruscans.
The Marrocchesi Marzi family purchased the estate in 1865, and current generation brothers, Tommaso and Federico, continue to cultivate the vineyards and produce wines on the 25 Hectare estate, surrounded by over three thousand olive trees. The vineyard is planted to sangiovese and in the Capannino vineyard to the sangiovese grosso clone of Montalcino. There are smaller plantings of colorino, merlot, trebbiano and malvasia. Tommaso has mapped the soils and exposure of the two flanks of the Bibbiano slope in order to enhance the ‘genius loci’ (local talent) of each unique geographical site, to produce harmonious, elegant wines of great personality.
Certified Organic and with zero carbon emissions, at Bibbiano the grapes are manually harvested and carefully selected ahead of vinification in cement tanks and maturation in large oak botti. At Bibbiano the over-riding aim is one of striking the perfect balance between modernity and tradition.
