About This Wine
Glaetzer’s 2021 Anaperenna is 79% Shiraz, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon; a seamless fusion making a classic Australian red. As the Roman Goddess of new beginnings, Anaperenna is a symbol for renewal and changing of the seasons. Grown from exceptional old-vine fruit in the famed Ebeneezer vineyard, the Cabernet is grown on very thick heavy black clay ‘Bay of Biscay’ on 30 to 130-year-old vines. The Shiraz was grown on 30 to 100-year-old vines. The yield was 2.5 tonnes per hectare. It was fermented in 1 and 2 tonne open fermenters and hand plunged 3 times daily. Matured for 16 months in 100% new oak hogshead barrels (92% French, 8% American) and matured on lees to maintain fruit profile and animation. It was bottled unfiltered, to ensure the wine’s natural characteristics ran through.
The Shiraz brings structure and strength, the Cabernet adds an herbaceous and savoury character. The combination of dark berries, complimented by fresh thyme, plums and cardamom makes for a well-rounded, lovely dark fruited and spiced wine. This wine will mature extremely well and can be cellared to 2040 and beyond.
