The Wine Front – Light, spicy, crisp, white fleshed fruit, honey and citrus. Clean lines, good length. Carries some spicy oak, but it works well enough. I liked it best quite chilled, but it showed a different side when served cool-ish, not least a more fleshy and viscous texture. Versatile wine. Easy to enjoy.

Decanter – Expressive – leaps out of the glass: tangy, fresh pineapple, nectarine and citrus aromas framed by subtle oak and a burst of dried fruit flavour. Full, fat and fresh.

About This Wine

"Allocation only, email wine@worldwine.com.au to secure allocation"

2014 has been a terrific white and rosé vintage in the Rhône, with very lean, linear, precise and sharp wines. Definitely a vintage for "Grand Blanc" wines, such as this gem labelled Côtes du Rhône because of the regulations but grown on Pierre Amadieu's Gigondas AOC estate - from its oldest Clairette vines, in fact, planted in 1955 on terroir situated at an altitude of around 300m. The wine is a genuine rarity: it is made from 100% Clairette grapes from Gigondas, vinified in French oak. This unusual combination results in an exceptional wine: it expresses the freshness of the Gigondas terroir while displaying an admirable smoothness. Vines are harvested manually towards the end of September. The grapes are pressed and vinified partly in one year-old barrels and partly in new oak barrels, then aged on fine lees for 10 months.
