About This Wine
Eden Road’s flagship Chardonnay has always been a blend of the finest fruit from the Maragle and Courabyra vineyards in Tumbarumba. Now that there is no single vineyard wines being released from these sites, the very best fruit ends up in this bottling. The lion’s share of the 2016 comes from the cooler, gently rolling slopes of Courabyra (80%), the balance from the breezy, lower lying Maragle vineyard. All the fruit was handpicked, whole bunch pressed and transferred directly into French oak barrels (20% new) for fermentation on full solids. There were no sulphur additions until bottling. From a strong year, this is a juicy-rich, layered, high country Chardonnay showing lovely nutty, yellow fruit aromas and flavours with a hint of white flowers. Densely packed and quite rocky in the mouth, with the richness balanced by a nervy seam of vibrant acidity and a hint of matchsticky complexity. An excellent example of the NSW high country.
