The Wine Front – Blackberry and blueberry, spice and aniseed, a lick of vanilla. Full bodied, but kind of smooth with it, dark chocolate and black olives, balanced acidity, and deep fleshy tannin rolling onto the finish. Richness of fruit, grounded by the earthiness of Kay’s. It’s entirely convincing, and good.

The Wine Front – Biodynamic farmed from a single vineyard on the Paxton estate. Grows up in French and American oak barrels. Paxton have been a leading light in showing biodynamic (certified) viticulture can be done to scale, well. Inky, deep, throaty red of hearty, dark fruit character, all inky cassis and choc-berry, liquid spice, fat tannins. A juicy, fleshy, plush flow of espresso tinged plummy fruit, gritty, savouriness to close. This is a big, bold red of warming character and density. Touch of warmth in the mix. It’s done pretty well for its style.
James Halliday – Biodynamic-grown fruit, open-fermented, matured in French and American barriques for 18 months. A celebrated McLaren Vale single vineyard wine, effortlessly providing a deep well of black fruits and fine-grained tannins, the oak a positive contributor, not a rabble rouser.
World Wine – Chocolate, dried plum and anise notes are juicy and bursting with blackberry accents. Balanced and smooth, especially on the finish. Drink now through 2026.

James Halliday – Announces its credibility with the first whiff of the bouquet, equally quickly confirmed by the palate. This is very good stuff, fully ripe at 12.5%, and not looking to be a wannabe sauvignon blanc. It's white peach first up, then pink grapefruit takes command on the back-palate and finish.
James Halliday – It took me a while to reach a conclusion on this wine. It's big and ripe and concentrated with a mass of cedar, spice, dried red fruit, tobacco and black plum. And there's big grainy tannins that coat the mouth from the middle back, but under it all is a core of succulent fruit, waiting. Patience the key here. - 2020 Vintage Review

James Halliday – From two blocks on the Avon Brae vineyard in the Eden Valley and a single vineyard in the Barossa Valley, open-fermented, matured in French barriques (15% new) for almost 2 years before blending. The Reynell clone has for many, many years been regarded as awesome when used with French oak, this one of innumerable examples. the wine is very complex, with a suite of flavours inching to the spice/licorice of cool grown shiraz. A snap at the price.
James Halliday – Matured for almost 2 years in French hogsheads (40% new). An impressive follow-on from the '15, with an unusual lacquered palate of a panoply of black fruits and spices. It flows evenly and without hurry along toasty oak without a breath of alcohol heat, the cedary aromas and flavours of the French oak slotting into the finish and aftertaste. This wine has had balance from the word go, its long term future gold-plated.
