The Bussia portion fermented and matured in concrete; Roncaglie also fermented in concrete, but this portion was aged in large oak foudre. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThat both vineyards could be classified as Barolo (and Roncaglie will be from 2023) says a great deal about the quality. The combination of translucent fruit, succulent texture, and vibrant freshness across the palate is a delight. Right now, the wine’s array of red fruits, anise and sarsaparilla flavours are tightly coiled, so a decant is recommended if you’re in a hurry. Vinification was in concrete, with very gentle extraction, and aging was in large Slavonian oak casks (like all Massolino Nebbiolo) for 12 months, as opposed to 24-plus months for the Barolo wines. A touch more buoyant than recent releases, the wine closes with a lick of smoky charcuterie that gives the finish a saline kick. The wine was aged for 18 months in Slavonian oak botti and bottled unfiltered.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThis perfectly portrays the balanced character of this vintage and is an outstanding mini-Barolo. It offers wonderfully red-fruited perfume and layer upon layer of gorgeous, elegantly rendered Nebbiolo fruit. There is structure, as you would expect of a serious Nebbiolo, but the tannins are fine and work to balance the wine's compact fruit. It closes with lovely energy, purity and mouthwatering salinity. It’s an outstanding, engaging Nebbiolo that offers excellent value for money. As with all this grower’s wines, the longer it spends in the decanter or glass, the more it reveals.
