The Wine Front – 'It's the blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (56%) and shiraz (44%) that could take on all-comers.Stand aside. There's a freight train of flavour here and while its brakes are hydraulic its momentum is enormous. For the love of grapes. A huge swerve and plum and blackcurrant flavour comes drenched in cedar wood, mocha and vanilla, though its top notes of tobacco and bay shine throughout like the top edge of wave. Will you take a look at the nut-like tannin on this job. This has more texture than a biscuit, more common than a keyboard. It's sheer old-new-school Aussie red wine brilliance. Rated: 97 Points Tasted: August 2021 Alcohol: 14.5% Drink: 2026 - 2044+' - Campbell Mattinson, Winefront

Huon Hooke – Very deep, dark, youthful purple/red colour with a rich, complex, profound bouquet that has a substantial oak input but not overdone—given the concentration of flavour. The palate flavour persists a very long time. It’s firm and youthful, needs more time, and promises much for the future. Dark berries galore: rich and ripe and very, very attractive. James Suckling – "This has a complex nose of baked blackberries, grilled plums, dried earth, moss, pine cones, sandalwood, charcoal and cloves. It’s medium-bodied with firm, tightly knit tannins. Wow. So much going on. Layered, seamless and silky. Incredible length. Keeps going. 42% cabernet sauvignon, 30% malbec and 28% cabernet franc. Try this from 2024." 98 points, James Suckling

Wine Enthusiast – "This is a wonderful, subtle, sophisticated wine that has hidden power as well as great fruit. The Cabernet gives a pure black currant character to this intense wine, with its firm tannins hidden inside a fruity exterior. The balance is just right." 100 points.

James Suckling – "The greatest Margaux ever made. More than perfection. Full body, firm and ultra-silky tannins. Black currant, mineral and floral character. It starts slowly and seems almost endless on the palate. Seamless. I want to sing! This is the wine that Margaux never made in some of the classic vintages like 1961, 1959 and 1945. Maybe it's the 1900 all over again? Breathtaking." 100 points. (James Suckling)

Robert Parker/Wine Advocate – The 1998 Calon-Ségur, blended of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, is deep garnet-purple in color with just a touch of brick and a very earthy/meaty nose with notions of new leather, smoked game, truffles, dusty soil, iron ore and mossy bark over a core of crème de cassis, preserved plums, spice cake and unsmoked cigars plus a waft of incense. The palate is medium-bodied and packed with spicy and earthy layers with velvety tannins, seamless freshness and great length. Give it 10 to 15+ more years. Drink through 2033. (LPB)

Robert Parker/Wine Advocate – Jeb Dunnuck - The 2009 Palmer is unquestionably one of the greatest young Bordeaux I’ve tasted, and it has a rare mix of richness and elegance that’s incredible. Blackcurrants, violets, lead pencil shavings and a touch of minerality all emerge from this rich, massively concentrated Margaux that still glides across the palate with no sense of weight or heaviness. It’s perfectly balanced, has a ripe, hedonistic core of fruit, as well as integrated acidity. It’s a dream today, but is going to have 30-40 years or more of prime drinking.

Robert Parker/Wine Advocate – Jeb Dunnuck - The 2009 Chateau Canon is brilliant in every regard and certainly one of the finest wines from this estate I've ever tasted. Based on 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet from a Grand Cru terroir located on the upper, limestone-driven plateau outside of the village of Saint-Emilion, it’s still youthfully ruby-colored and boasts a beautiful perfume of blackberries, black raspberries, white flowers, chalky minerality, truffle, and dried flowers. Firing on all cylinders, with incredible complexity and sweetness in its aromatics, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a multi-dimensional texture, building tannins, and a finish that won't quit.

Robert Parker/Wine Advocate – Robert Parker - It boasts an inky/purple color along with a gorgeous bouquet of mocha, chocolate, blackberry and cassis fruit, an unctuous texture, a full-bodied, viscous mouthfeel and a skyscraper-like, multilayered finish. This spectacular wine is nearly overwhelming in its richness, thickness and intensity. Once all its baby fat falls away, the terroir characteristics and additional nuances will emerge. This blockbuster, fabulous Troplong Mondot will benefit from 10-15 years of cellaring and keep for three decades or more. It is not shy either, bouncing over the palate with 15.5% natural alcohol.

Wine Enthusiast – Heavy reduction on the nose of this wine meets blackberries, violets, gravel and tar, while vanilla sneaks out later. The palate is a chocolaty-berry blend with heat both peppery and spicy, then pivots elegantly to vanilla and baking spices. Dense but not cloying, it has pliant tannins and glittering acid.

James Suckling – This has gorgeous aromas of blackberries, blackcurrants, peppercorns, cloves, mocha, hazelnuts and dried herbs. Polished and creamy, with a medium to full body and firm, velvety tannins. Long, supple and elegant. Delicious already, but better from 2024.

Robert Parker/Wine Advocate – "The 2016 Les Forts de Latour is superb, unwinding in the glass with notions of blackcurrants, wild berries, sweet loamy soil, cigar wrapper and English walnuts. Medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, it’s concentrated and tightly wound, with superb depth at the core, lively acids and ripe, powdery tannins. This is an impeccably balanced, utterly classical Forts de Latour worth a special effort to seek out." - William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

James Suckling – Jame Suckling - Aromas of orange peel, currants, olives and subtle rosemary. Full body with a beautiful balance of fine tannins and a fresh finish. Super-refined and beautiful.

Decanter – Decanter - 2009 was a cooler vintage, and that's reflected in the complex bass notes of black olive and tobacco which inflect this Opus One's bouquet of dark fruit, chocolate and licorice; supple and polished on the palate, this wine has more of a savoury edge to its tannic profile than riper years such as 2007. Cabernet Sauvignon only makes up 81% of the blend here, complemented by fully 9% Cabernet Franc, a variety that plays an increasing role at Opus. (
