Maestro Tejero 46 Cepas 2014

Maestro Tejero 46 Cepas 2014

What do these icons mean?

One of Alfredo Maestro Tejero's most intriguing cuvees is this 100 per cent Merlot drawn from a parcel of vines located in Bocos de Duero (Valladolid) on the River Duero, at almost 800 metres altitude. This isn't your average Merlot vineyard in Ribera. 46 Cepas means 46 vines, because when he started Alfredo planted a mixed vineyard with one line of Merlot that was 46 vines, so in 2009, there was only wine produced from those 46 vines. The wine hand harvested and fruit de-stemmed before natural fermentation in 1000-litre stainless steel tanks (with maceration of 10-15 days). The wine sees no oak during its elevage. The fresh-of-the-boat Cepas 46 is a vibrant, aromatic Merlot with the emphasis on generous, juicy fruit flavours of red cherry, plum and jalapeño nuances, rather than oak. It's elegant and poised with polished tannins, seamless integration between the nose and palate. Long and well balanced, the wine's vibrant acidity carries its 14% alcohol with effortless grace.
