Shadowfax has inhabited a new plane of excellence in recent years. Matt Harrop’s focus on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Macedon Ranges has placed the winery in the first rank of Victorian producers for generous yet elegant examples of these varieties. Jovial, talented New Zealander Matt started working in wineries when he was 17. He attended Roseworthy Agricultural College in South Australia and worked at Brokenwood in the Hunter Valley and at Nautilus in Marlborough before starting out at Shadowfax. The Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz are perennially popular, while the Minnow wines are an characterful take on southern French varieties. The estate’s purchase of a superb high-altitude vineyard at Little Hampton in the Macedon Ranges, where superb Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir are grown, is a signal of Shadowfax's intent to keep taking things to a higher level. Since the first releases in 1999, Shadowfax has carved out a serious reputation for truly expressive wines - with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz getting the lion's share of the attention
