The Wine Front – "Col McBryde one of the best winemakers in Australia, I reckon. Spicy, exotic, blueberry and boysenberry pie, nutty and floral. It’s medium to full-bodied, a great set of deep gravelly tannin and a distinct ‘liquid mineral’ feel to it, if that makes any sense, with cool acidity, and a ferrous and gently saline finish of excellent length, again those tannins really impressive, finishing off the wine beautifully. And what value!" - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
About This Wine
A medium to full-bodied McLaren Vale Shiraz using high quality organic fruit. Deep tannins and great length to the finish. Amazing value.
Destemmed, 50% berries crushed. Ferment 1 was macerated for 24 days and then pressed to concrete for maturation. Ferments 2 and 3 were macerated for 54 days before being pressed to larger format oak. Maturation in concrete and oak was 9 months.
The Gardner family have owned the Spring Farm Estate, the site of both the Adelina winery and vineyards, since 1986. Prior to the inception of Adelina Wines in 2000, Will and Elaine Gardner managed the property and sold fruit to Tim Adams. The Shiraz vineyard here was probably planted circa 1910, no one knows exactly, and the vineyard is sandwiched between two of the Clare's greatest sites, Wendouree (which lies just 150 meters from Adelina) and The Aberfeldy vineyard. So this is an undeniable sweet-spot terroir for Shiraz. The gnarled old vines at Adelina grow in shallow red loam soil that sits over a base of limestone and slate.
