The Wine Front – Good to see this now closed with a DIAM cork, though screwcap might be even better? Complex, savoury, powerful style of Riesling. There’s a slick glosssiness, with intense acidity, a saline ‘mineral’ feel, floral bits, apple and citrus, though I’d suggest it’s more about the feel of it, rather than simple flavour descriptors. Powdery feel and zip to the finish. Mighty. - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
James Suckling – Bracing minerals, sliced pears and apples, wet stones and a gently floral edge here. So pure and fresh. The palate has a succulent, powerfully aligned drive of fresh apple and pear flavors with a mouthwateringly fresh stream of acidity. More citrusy at the finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold. - Nick Stock
About This Wine
Pre-order coming directly from the winery in New Zealand, delivered November 26
This is an excellent example of how to build texture in Riesling.
Winemaker and grape grower Nick Mills holds this wine back for a minimum of a year before releasing it to market. It's made from the mature vines on the Rippon vineyard, harnessing the power of this fruit takes a little extra time.
The wine spends a day or two on skins and 100 days on lees before going to bottle. Nothing is hurried at Rippon and the mesmerising complexity of this wine on release is a testament to Nick's patience.
It's a wine which looks better every year in bottle.
A wine of blistering power and stunning detail, Riesling enthusiasts, you'll be very happy to have this as part of your collection.
