The Wine Front – Particular, better-performing blocks (off a high base) work their way into the Drumborg Vineyard designated wine. About 60% is puncheon, 40% barrique and just under 20% is new oak. An effort to let the fruit shine. Lovers of great Australian chardonnay with a penchant for great Chablis should step right up. So much chardonnay flavour here, proper stuff, nashi pear and ripe citrus, lip-smacking ripe limey acidity, gentle spread of understated almond paste and oatmeal., finishes with slate-like minerality. Yes thanks. Perfume is as hoped, lively, fruity, faintly nutty and spicy, but it’s the flow and texture and moreish feel to the wine that seduces the most. Drinkability is through the roof, and yet complexity and concentration of flavour is too, and then the wine is elegant, fine and long. Outstanding.
About This Wine
Aromas of citrus blossom, brioche, toasted hazelnuts and lemon curd, with hints of struck match. The palate is concentrated and long, showing grapefruit pith, white stonefruit and a mealy texture. Subtle, nutty French oak combined with mineral acid produces a complex wine with balance and intensity.
