Algueira Brandan 2016
This crunchy, fragrant Godello comes from a terraced single vineyard that has been painstakingly restored by Algueira's Fernando González. This vineyard lies on the Orense bank of the River Sil, the opposite side to most of Algueira's holdings, where the 30 to 80 year old vines are rooted in the schist soils of the Amandi gorge. The name pays tribute to the Celtic ancestry of the region (Brandan was a Celtic warlord who originally settled the area). Fermented with natural yeasts only and aged entirely without oak, it's an intensely fragrant, floral young white with a racy, juicy palate offering pristine stone fruit and white flowers, as well as a smoky, ozone like savouriness and a pithy backbone of freshness. Outstanding value.
