Exopto Bozeto de Exopto 2015
This great value pan-regional blend has been in our portfolio since day dot. Following two cooler harvests, this 2015 is a more layered, aromatic example that leaps out the glass and gets straight down to business. As always, Bozeto is a predominately Grenache/Tempranillo blend; the Grenache portion (50%) hails from the sandy, riverstone terroir of El Agudo, a 60 year old plot at Alfaro on the Monte Yerga (Rioja Baja), while the Tempranillo (40%) comes from the mature Periquita vineyard (in Ábalos) in the Rioja Alta. To preserve its primary freshness, Puyaubert ferments his Grenache in Nomblot concrete while the Tempranillo is fermented in oak vats and raised in old wooden foudre. Finally, there is 10% Graciano, highly unusual for a Rioja at this price. This component comes again from Rioja Alta and brings acidity, complexity and another layer of flavour and texture.
This is a wonderfully aromatic, food friendly wine. It opens with perfumes of dark cherry and red floral overtones that lead to a round, flowing palate with flavours of raspberry, blackberry, powdered dark chocolate and a fresh edge of something herbal and savoury. The finish is sappy and super fresh.
A bargain by any standards.

World Wine – “Unusually for a new wave producer, Tom Payaubert still favours the traditional style of pan-regional blending: 50% Garnacha from Monte Agudo in the Rioja Baja and 40% Tempranillo and 10% Graciano from Ábalos in the Rioja Alta. Aged in old foudres, it’s a subtle, raspberry and redcurrant-perfumed red with appealing texture.” 91 points, Tim Atkin MW
