The Wine Front – Only 300 cases made. Has previously included a percentage of tannat; not sure on this release. Complex herb and twig notes thread their way through a powerful serving of dark, cherried fruit flavour. It’s a powerful expression of Hunter shiraz but it’s not an over-ripe or over-done one. Tannin, length and balance are all ship-shape. Everything would indicate that this has a fine future ahead. Only 300 cases made. James Halliday – ‘Includes 10% tannat, hand-picked, 10% whole bunches, the remainder crushed and destemmed, cultured yeast, open-fermented, 2 days cold soak, 7 days on skins, fermentation finished in used French puncheons, matured for 12 months. Bright hue; has a striking juicy freshness to the array of red and black fruits; while only just medium-bodied, the palate has compelling length and freshness.’ 95 Points – James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion
About This Wine
From the stony slopes at Glenguin, where the yields average only 1.5 tonnes per acre, this red has the spicy fruit and savoury characters of Shiraz complemented by a twist (usually 10%) of Tannat, which adds purple colour, damson fruit and an extra edge to this unique blend.
