Kumeu River 'Coddington' Chardonnay 2016
The Wine Front – I like that Coddington sounds like a typical name for an English village. I’d have a glass of this with my pork pie any day of the week. Creamy, with a butter menthol and floral perfume, peach and melon, layered with ginger and spices. Medium bodied, glossy and smooth, bright acidity keeps it trim, and a viscous and perfumed finish of excellent length. It’s the biggest of the trio, but very satisfying and delivers Chardonnay with luscious, yet controlled appeal.
World Wine – Possessing struck match and savory notes over a core of apricots, spiced pears and marzipan with a touch of mandarin peel, the medium-bodied Coddington Chardonnay is open and expressive, yet with all the vivacity and intensity necessary for cellaring potential.
