Te Mata Bullnose Syrah 2014

Te Mata Bullnose Syrah 2014

Rolls out of the glass in waves of mocha, oriental spice, plum and dark, dark cherry. Lavishly textured with concentrated layers of raspberry and blackcurrant.

Expert Reviews

A fine expression of New Zealand Syrah

94 Points

Named after the famous British sportscar, deep and impenetrable in the glass, this is cooler, black olive style of Syrah rather with lovely depth and purity on the palate.

Deep purple in colour with plums, cherries, red apples, wild strawberries, black pepper and sweet cloves. All this complexity is underpinned by intense acidity, which accentuates its beautiful freshness. An instant sell-out.

A classic modern Antipodean syrah/shiraz type from Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. Succulent balance of fruit, acidity, and meltingsoft fine tannins. Lovely. (Cork; 13.5 per cent alcohol.) Ageing? Drink over 8 years. Food idea Shanghai lamb hotpot with steamed bread.

As taut, refined and spicy an example of New Zealand Syrah as you could find.

A delightful medium-bodied red offering perfumes of violets, star anise, red berries, dark cherry, black pepper and mixed spices. The palate is delightfully fine and silky.

Reductive like smoky bacon bones, black pepper, blue fruits and floral perfume. Slides along, a bit of the old graphite in the tannin department, well pitched acidity, red and black fruit layered with spice on a medium bodied frame. Very well mannered. Certainly, it's Syrah over Shiraz and good to drink now, or over the next decade for the additional complexity.
