James Halliday – A delicious grüner, closer to riesling than most, and deserved its gold medal from the Wisewise Small Vignerons Awards ’17. Meyer lemon and yellow peach lie behind the balancing acidity.
James Suckling – Tight and chewy yet polished and beautiful. Medium to full body, a pretty core of fruit within the center palate and a flavorful finish. Better than 2015 and on the same level as the excellent 2014.

James Halliday – A blend of 59/38/3% chardonnay/pinot noir/pinot meunier, all estate-grown Pipers River fruit; 40 months on lees, disgorged Jan ’02. Medium salmon in the glass with a fine, persistent bead. Awash with notes of red apple and redcurrant. Hints of crushed stone, cherry clafoutis, clotted cream and strawberry flan. There's a swell of dosage on the finish, placing it on the ridgeline of off-dry, but the finish is clean and carries nicely.
James Halliday – “Open-fermented, 8 days on skins, 26 months in French barriques (35% new) plus 20 months in bottle before release. Cassis/blackcurrant notes plus mint and briar.”
James Halliday – A single block of MV6, whole-berry ferment (no whole bunches), matured for 11 months in French puncheons (40% new). Very much in the style of the cool vintage; elegant, savoury and very long in the mouth. Wild strawberry/cherry fruit is dusted with spices, dried herbs and cedary oak. A strong sense of place.
Robert Parker/Wine Advocate – The 2018 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is performing very well, wafting from the glass with a deep-pitched bouquet of cassis, wild berries, incense, rich soil tones and woodsmoke. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, layered and broad-shouldered, with a deep and layered core, rich structuring tannins and ripe but succulent acids. Long and sapid, this is another excellent Clos Vougeot from Faiveley, and this cuvée seems to go from strength to strength every year.
