Why World Wine?

Wine is such a marvellous thing, and exploring the world's best can be such an adventure. The problem is Australia's access to wine in the past has been very limited. Even with the great wine that's produced in our own country, the best ones aren't usually found in bottle shops as there's often a proliferation of commercial brands.

So that's where we come in. We're on a mission to drastically increase the accessibility of good wine across Australia. We connect with importers and distributors of the world's best wines, providing them with a platform to expand their reach to all Australians. Now even if you live in a rural area, you'll be able to have Grand Cru classics, Italian Nebiollo or a Californian Cabernet delivered to straight your door!  As we grow, more and more wines will become accessible and delivery times will get faster. Hope you join us on the journey!

Here's a little bit more about us:

We have the biggest range of fine wines, with over 2000 listed wines from around the world. Besides Australian wine, we also list wines from more than twenty other countries with the great regions of France, Italy, Spain and the United States featuring prominently. To try to ensure wine tastes exactly as the winemaker intended, the provenance of wine is essential to ensure quality. Most of our suppliers use temperature-controlled shipping and warehousing. We will also try to ship at the start of a week to avoid stock being held over a weekend in a hot warehouse. We don't have a minimum order, so you can order as little as one bottle - or by the case/s, and we also welcome orders for mixed cases. Pickup is available in Melbourne CBD if delivery is not desired. Flat rate $10 shipping for 98% of Australia.

Is there a minimum order and what are your discounts?

There’s no minimum order. You can buy one bottle, ten dozen, mix up a case of different bottles – whatever you wish. If you order a dozen wines or more – mixed or the same – a 5% discount will be automatically applied in the shopping cart as you checkout.

Want to send a gift?

If you want to send a gift and include a gift message, please enter that in the Notes section as you check out. We'll print that in a lovely font on rich cream paper, and include that with the wine. And we won't include the invoice. We'll email you the courier tracking information so you can see when it has been delivered.

Heat Policy

Provenance is crucial, which means we will not ship wine if the temperature at your place, or en route to you, is likely to exceed thirty degrees for a protracted period. We also generally do not ship on Fridays, to avoid wine being held in courier warehouses over weekends.

This means in the hotter months your delivery may not be sent until we are confident that the wine will not be affected by heat. This is particularly true for more expensive, collectible and cellarable wines.

It is your wine so you can of course insist we ship! We can pack wine in special insulated canisters, that are excellent at protecting wine. If you'd like us to ship using these reusable canisters, please let us know. There's a fee of $3 for each bottle.

The icons and ratings - what do they mean?

There's detailed coverage here, in short - click any of the icons to open a legend that provides the meaning of each icon. For example, the green leaf icon shows that the wine is organic.

The wine ratings indicates the rating given to the wine by a respected wine publication, and the abbreviation to the left of the number indicates which publication gave that rating. World Wine also rates some of the wines we sell, our abbreviation is WW.

Shipping

Where do you deliver?

Everywhere in Australia. We also ship internationally. (see International Deliveries below).

When will my wine arrive?

Your delivery will be between 8am and 5pm Monday to Friday. How long it takes to reach you will depend on where you live as well as how many bottles you ordered and whether it's a mixed or straight case.

Mixed cases will take longer for us to prepare as we need to source the wine from different suppliers. Each supplier has a minimum order and so sometimes when ordering a small quantity (i.e. 1-4 bottles) we will need to wait to put your order with other orders.

The table below offers a guideline for straight orders:

 1-5 bottles4-10 working days6-11 bottles4-8 working days12 bottles4-6 working days

Mixed cases will take 6-10 working days. If there are any complications we will get in contact with you as soon as possible.

Australia Post and Fastway are our couriers for deliveries within Australia. Both specialise in wine deliveries, with a focus on delivering wine safely, and they have a 'track and trace' system on their website so you can monitor the progress of your wine after it leaves us. When your wine is dispatched from our warehouse, you will receive an email from us to let you know. The email will contain a tracking link so you can monitor progress.

What are your delivery charges?

We provide free delivery (almost) everywhere.

Delivery on your order is free for 99% of Australian destinations if its value is $250 or more. Your order can be for one bottle, a few, a mixed or a straight case - if the value is $250 or more, delivery is free.

For orders under $250, there's a modest $10 delivery fee. This will be automatically calculated and displayed at checkout.

There are a few places where an additional freight charge will apply - regional and rural Queensland and Western Australia, and all of the Northern Territory. If your postcode in Queensland and WA is outside:

Queensland: 4000-4350WA:6000-6025; 6800-6997

Then an additional charge will apply:

1-6 bottles $29.957-12 bottles $49.99

This will be charged in addition to the amount shown during Checkout.

We may charge for re-delivery of orders if we are given incorrect address information.

Deliveries do need to be signed for by an adult aged eighteen years or older. We encourage deliveries to a business address to ensure someone is available to sign.

If you ask us to leave wine at your delivery address without a signature, the responsibility passes on to you.

Do you deliver to Post Office boxes and Lockers?

Yes, however we can only use Auspost as they are the only carrier for delivery to PO boxes. Because of this the delivery free will often be more expensive. (not the standard $10).

International deliveries

World Wine can ship to certain countries. Pleasecontact us for details.

Cancelling an order

If you wish to cancel an order, please email us. If the order has not yet left us, there's a cancellation fee of 10% of the order value, to a maximum of $100. If the order has left us, we also need to charge the cost of freight to you and back to us. That amount will depend on your location.

Insurance

Your order is insured by World Wine at our cost. This covers you from any package lost or damaged in transit, unless you have asked us to deliver wine and given us an authority to leave (e.g. "Leave wine on verandah") in which case we cannot take responsibility for fulfilment of the delivery. Also, if wine needs re-delivery (because no one is available to sign for the delivery), insurance ceases, due to the increased possibility of damage.

Any claim for lost or damaged goods must be made within fourteen days of despatch. Please note that insurance only applies to deliveries within Australia.

For international shipments, damaged or faulty wine must be returned to us before any claim can be considered.

Returns and Shipping Charges

Returns for refund will be processed less the original shipping and handling charges and subject to the wines being merchantable. Please contact us before returning wine. We will offer a refund if a wine is faulty, but not if it is not to your taste.
