The Wine Front – It’s a lighter style with a fine rose and aniseed perfume, red cherry and dried herb, Fresh, bright, a little rasp to the tannin, but has clarity of fruit and an autumnal character to it. Almond and red fruits on a crisp finish of good length. I like the energy here, even though the tannin is just a bit scratchy and slightly hard. Grows well in glass, and likely to age pretty well, and improve over the medium term. Drink: 2021-2030; Rated: 92 Points; Gary Walsh
The Wine Front – If you’re in an Italian state of mind then we’re pretty much into ‘fill your boots’ territory here. This is the kind of ‘go to’ wine you’re always going to want to have on hand. It’s all licorice root, dark cherry, earthen/ferrous-like spice and coffee grounds, the acidity refreshing and the tannin authentically firm. It’s not earth-shattering but it’s damn good buying and drinking.
James Suckling – This shows phenomenal structure to it with fantastic linear tannins that take this wine deep and long on the palate. It’s buttressed by a beautiful balance of ripe fruit characterized by strawberry and orange-peel undertones. Chewy and focused. Needs four or five years to soften and show its true greatness. Available in February 2019. Try in 2022.
