Chateau Angelus 1er Grand Cru Classé "A" is one of the reference names for the Saint Emilion area and was one of the Châteaux to drive the entire appellation. But why is Chateau Angelus so special? First of all, the Angélus vineyard grows in a natural amphitheater facing south of Saint-Emilion which favors the growth of the grapes and is characterized by a large terroir; a balanced proportion of limestone and well-distributed clay that guarantees a regular supply of water and minerals. The varieties are distributed according to the type of soil: Merlot in the hills, where there is more clay and Cabernet Franc on the sandy clayey-limestone soils at the foot of the hill. A blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, Chateau Angelus is a dense, creamy but also elegant and classy Bordeaux wine, without missing a very pleasant freshness. Chateau Angelus is a wine that is slow to open, but it is among the most intriguing and refined. The color becomes more intense with aging, the mentholated and spicy aromas are extraordinarily elegant and subtle. The tannins are dense, yet silky and bring the fresh notes necessary to achieve general balance. Cabernet Franc enhances the aging of the greatest wines. Today Chateau Angelus 2013 is almost at its qualitative peak; take advantage of it if you want to drink one of Bordeaux's big names without having to wait 20 years!
