Pinot Noir in its most refined form. The 2023 Gantenbein Pinot Noir from Fläsch in Switzerland’s Graubünden captures the estate’s quiet precision and sense of place. Deep and pure on the nose, it opens with black cherry, raspberry and subtle spice before revealing layers of graphite, crushed stone and fine cocoa. The palate moves with silk-like energy—intense yet weightless, generous yet controlled. Every detail feels placed with intent.
This wine is drawn from old Burgundy clones planted on weathered schist and gneiss in the Bündner Herrschaft, where cool Alpine air and long daylight hours create exceptional balance. Low yields, hand-harvesting and gravity-led winemaking define Gantenbein’s approach. The wine is fermented with native yeasts and aged in fine French oak barrels, allowing texture and structure to evolve naturally. No filtration or fining is used, preserving both purity and mineral tension.
The 2023 vintage is marked by clarity and poise. It carries the richness of a warm season but remains lifted by alpine freshness and saline precision. Critics describe it as one of the most complete expressions yet from Daniel and Martha Gantenbein, a wine that sits comfortably among the finest interpretations of Pinot Noir anywhere. Its longevity is assured, though its elegance is already unmistakable.

Robert Parker/Wine Advocate – Gantenbein's 2023 Pinot Noir is deep, pure, fresh and terroir-driven on the nose that intertwines blackberry and raspberry aromas intertwined with graphite, black pepper and fresh mocha cream notes. Purity, energy and terroir freshness paired with elegance and complexity—that's the formula of the (unfortunately rare) 2023 Gantenbein. Generous or even luscious and very intense but at the same time silky, refined and most of all weightless on the palate, this is a fabulous, rich and elegant, finely juicy, enormously long and still weightless, playful and saline-finishing Pinot that probably represents the hardest selection ever made at this stellar domaine in Fläsch. The tannins of the 2023 are incredibly fine and guarantee superbly balanced juiciness of this pristine Pinot that is probably one of the finest I have ever tasted from Martha and Daniel Gantenbein, at least that young. Unfortunately, the quantity is just a fourth of the average. 13.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in Illmitz, Austria, in June 2025.
