About this Wine

Gemischter Satz from Ingrid Groiss is a traditional Austrian wine made from a field blend of numerous different grape varieties, all grown together in a single vineyard. It is an aromatic wine with a light, airy quality on the nose. The fruit comes through on the palate with pear and zesty lemon to the fore. In a world where single varietals rule supreme this is the blend to end all other blends. The result is one of the most refreshing and delightful wines we’ve tried. It’s effortlessly brilliant and proves that variety and a little bit of everything really is the spice of life.

Describing herself as passionate, emotional and determined, this pretty much says it all about Ingrid Groiss and these are the sort of character traits I’d expect to find in a young wine maker who modernised their parent’s winery. Having lived the corporate life with Coca-Cola in her younger years, Ingrid returned to her wine-making roots in Weinviertel and set about producing fantastic wines from the vineyards her gran had planted some 50 years ago. Ingrid’s wines have a great purity to them and the complexity of her Gruner Veltliners is quite amazing. The wines are all certified organic now and they get better with every vintage. It’s a real pleasure to work with Ingrid and her wines, we love them!

About Austrian Wine

Austria is a country with over 4000 years of wine making history, however, it unfortunately doesn't seem to enjoy the status and popularity that the high quality of it's wines deserve. Decades later, the country is still feeling the effects of a scandal in 1985 that destroyed its credibility at the time.

Grüner Veltliner is the most important wine made in Austria, distinguished by its lightly fruity, noticeable spice and characteristic white pepper notes. This variety comprises roughly a third of all plantings. In terms of volume, Riesling plays a much smaller role than in Germany, but is responsible for some of the most appreciated dry white wines made in the country.

In red varietals, Austrian native varieties are dominant and include the tart and peppery Zweigelt, spicy and dense Blaufränkisch and juicy Saint Laurent.
