The 2023 Gantenbein Chardonnay from Fläsch in Switzerland’s Graubünden region shows the balance and purity that have made this small family estate one of Europe’s most respected names in modern winemaking. It opens with layers of ripe citrus, stone fruit and flint, lifted by saline freshness and framed by subtle texture. There is density without weight, a calm richness anchored by mineral detail.
Gantenbein’s Chardonnay is produced in minute quantities from Burgundy clones planted in limestone-rich soils. Every stage of production relies on gravity, with no pumping, fining or filtration. The wine is fermented and aged in French oak barrels, allowing the fruit and vineyard character to shape the profile rather than winemaking intervention. The result is a wine of focus and dimension, unforced yet complete, and among the most sought-after white wines in Switzerland.
The 2023 vintage carries particular clarity and tension, combining ripe yellow fruit and gentle spice with the precision of cool-climate viticulture. Its texture is both supple and firm, evolving through the glass with notes of lemon peel, roasted hazelnut and crushed stone. It will develop gracefully in the cellar over the next decade and beyond.

On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, extremely intense, dense, and yet elegant – an aromatic, yet refined and mineral Chardonnay that reveals intense, indulgent yellow fruit flavors such as melon and tropical fruits. The tannins are very fine, the finish is generous, textured, saline, very long, and spicy.
