Château de Chamboureau has a rich history dating back to at least the 15th century, and it is highly likely that viticulture was already taking place during that time. By the 16th century, we can confirm that winemaking was established at the estate. Situated at the top of the plateau, Château de Chamboureau is the last property one encounters when leaving the village of Epiré and heading west towards Savennières. Its vineyards encompass three sides of the château.
In 1949, Michel Soulez acquired the domaine and managed its operations until 1978, when he entrusted the day-to-day running to his brother, Yves. Michel and his wife had a large family of eleven children, and in 1982, one of their five sons, Pierre-Yves, assumed control of the estate from his uncle. During Pierre-Yves' tenure, Chamboureau began expanding by acquiring vineyards in Le Clos de Varennes and leasing land in Le Clos du Papillon and La Roche aux Moines from Baron Brincard. Despite facing financial uncertainties in the late 1980s, Pierre-Yves handed over control of the estate to his brother, Pierre, in 1991. Pierre had recently returned after a successful career as an agronomist in central Africa.
In 2004, Pierre was joined by his nephew, Hugues Daubercies. Having previously worked in Provence, Daubercies brought with him a commitment to organic practices. Under his guidance, Chamboureau transitioned to an organic regime, and the estate obtained organic certification starting from the 2008 vintage.
