James Suckling – "Redcurrant and creme de cassis aromas. Roses. So aromatic. Stones. Oyster and mussel shell. Ink pot. Lead pencil shavings. Full-bodied but very tight and focused. Linear and long with fine, powdery and chewy tannins. Crushed velvet texture. 56% cabernet sauvignon, 32% merlot, and 12% cabernet franc. More franc than normal in the blend. Terrific length. Try after 2028." - James Suckling
Huon Hooke – "A smashing cabernet blend, and a top vintage for this wine." 97 Points (Huon Hooke, The Real Review)

"A smashing cabernet blend, and a top vintage for this wine." - Huon Hooke
Internationally acclaimed Te Mata Estate, renowned for its impeccable pedigree of wines, presents the 37th release of their iconic 'Coleraine', from the unmatched 2021 vintage.
Considered by many as NZ's greatest wine. The pedigree, the quality, Coleraine can stand toe to toe with any of the great Bordeaux blends in the world, nicknamed New Zealand's “Grange.”
Coleraine ’21 is an apex cabernet blend, a singular wine that could only result from a remarkable vintage. Combining an unequalled harvest, cutting-edge winemaking technology, and 127 years of fine wine pedigree, Coleraine ’21 stands alone – a wine of unique provenance even by Te Mata Estate’s exacting standards.
2021 was a definitive growing season; the earliest-ever bud break on Te Mata Estate’s vineyards led to the earliest-ever harvest. This warm, dry, and historic vintage yielded an abundance of very small berries providing great concentration, and producing wines of exceptional purity, power, tension and persistence. This is an absolute original.
Te Mata Coleraine 2021 is 'The One'.
APPEARANCE
Deep midnight magenta.
AROMA
The aromatics are immediately varietal with grace notes of cassis, raspberry leaf, fresh roses, dark chocolate, lifted black cherry, espresso and cedar
PALATE
The palate deepens the opening theme. There’s tapenade, darkest blackberry and ripe plum while underneath, quietly, a precise, profound tannin structure resonates. Powerful, deep-set, graceful and complex, Coleraine ’21 is refined to an exquisite point while still retaining freshness and balance. It lingers after tasting. Layered and composed, resplendent and resolved, a gloriously seductive ensemble celebratory of all that fine New Zealand wine can be.

Wines of Hawke's Bay
The oldest wine producing region in New Zealand, Hawkes bay is located on the east coast of the North Island.
Hawkes bay is split into a few subregions, the most notable of these are Gimblett Gravels, Bridge Pa Triangle and Te Mata Special Character Zone. These subregions are known for producing some of the best reds in the country, particularly Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. The top blends from these regions are on par with top level Bordeaux blends from around the world.
White wine is also produced in Hawke’s Bay, with Chardonnay in the lead in terms of volume with Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Viogner following behind.
