The Wine Front – New label (I think). Interesting wine in many ways. Left in old oak on lees for a year and goes through malolactic fermentation. All good things, though you’d have to know what you were getting in to beforehand if you were expecting a crisp ‘traditional’ Eden Valley Riesling. Honey, brine, a fino sherry sort of thing here, mint, cinnamon and apple. It’s tangy and tastes kind of golden (synesthetes may get that), a chalky mouth-feel, weighty flavour, brown lime, pie apple with a salty pastry, a quinine-like bitterness in tow, and a fleshy finish of good length. It’s a strange bird, but it’s a good wine. - Gary Walsh, 24 May 2023
Huon Hooke – Light yellow colour leads into a rubbery reductive bouquet that is quite layered and interesting, if not strictly your normal Aussie riesling. Query a touch of barrel. The palate has weight, richness and texture. A different style of riesling with a lot going for it. The barrel ageing takes it into an area few Australian rieslings venture. 5 August 2023

The 2022 Riesling from Eden Valley is highlighted by unusually high acidity. 100% malo-lactic fermentation on lees in oak for a full year with no need for Sulphur until bottling. The wine was also allowed to stabilize naturally, un-fined & lightly filtered. A textural style with citrus, pine-apple, lemon and grapefruit together with a long, salty, honeyed, minerally finish. Drink with chicken or fish with white sauces.

Barossa Valley Wine
The Barossa Valley wine region has historically and currently still is one of Australia's most prestigious premium wine producing regions. Located just 60km north east of Adelaide city centre, the climate there is very hot and dry which is perfect for the big bold reds the area is famous for.
A straight Shiraz is what Barossa is most well known for, however Rhone blends, such as Shiraz Cabernet are also very popular. While much less prevalent, white wines (Chardonnay, Riesling, Semillon) are planted on the higher altitude hillsides where the ocean breeze cools temperatures down to a level suitable for producing these varieties as well.
Some of Australia's earliest Shiraz plantings can be found here dating as far back as the 1850's. While not always a guarantee of quality, it might be worth seeking out and trying one of the region's "old vine shiraz" if you haven't yet.
