James Halliday – By far the best single-vineyard iteration of this range. Clarendon. Ferrous. Bloodstone, damson plum, crushed mint, raspberry coulis and dried thyme. Such vivacity, drive and length, positioned between a compact framework of tannins extracted with such exactitude and confidence. Compression and release manifest as brilliance. - Ned Goodwin MW (Halliday)
Robert Parker/Wine Advocate – The Hickinbotham site is in Clarendon and was planted in 1971. The Grenache fruit from this area tends to be darker, denser and more savory than the buoyant fruit grown on the Blewitt Springs sands. This 2022 Hickinbotham Single Site Grenache is a great example of that distinction, as it was tasted alongside the Brini Grenache from Blewitt Springs. Here, the wine is concentrated and purple/black, with mulberry, Satsuma plum, blueberry, star anise, a hint of aniseed, graphite, coal dust and black olive tapenade. There is much more mouth-fi lling fruit fl avor here, and tannins to match. Different strokes for different folks. This is a moreish, lingering, persistent wine. Highly recommended. The acid leaves a burst of juicy, cleansing, salivating "come hither" feelings on the back palate. 20 July 2023
Huon Hooke – Medium-deep red-purple, bright colour. Brooding aromas of dark and red fruits, sarsaparilla, iodine and cola; the palate fills out with lots of sweet fruit, plush and succulent, with balanced, drying tannins and a warming aftertaste. It seems almost sweet in the centre before the tannins ride in and dry the finish. 19 July 2023

Description
Description
Bright vibrant purple in the glass. Lifted aromatics of cranberry, bramble, and cherry. Herbal characters abound on the palate, with rosehip, just-ripe strawberry, and blood orange flavours. A rasp of light tannin provides good length and a savoury finish. The Hickinbotham Grenache has great energy and vitality in a medium bodied frame.
Sourced from Blocks 111-113 at the highest elevation of the Hickinbotham vineyard in
Clarendon. A southerly aspect provides respite from the hot afternoon sun during ripening ensuring that this fruit is the last Grenache harvested with a very long hang time on the vine to produce a very well developed flavour profile.
The fruit was hand-picked on the 6th April and processed as a 100% whole bunch ferment. After a slow and cool ferment the fruit was pressed to large format neutral French oak where it remained on full lees until racking for bottling in February 2023.
