About this Wine

Purus is a translation of pristine flavours, textures and the cool climate of southern Margaret River Chardonnay into wine.

The vines have been carefully managed to allow only dappled light into the fruiting zone. This promotes flavour development, low tannins and bright levels of natural acidity. The fruit is sourced from select parcels of Dijon clones grown in the cool southern end of Margaret River. The compact bunches of perfectly solarized berries are hand harvested at first light to preserve freshness of fruit.

Hand picked whole bunch pressed –no malo-lactic fermentation - aged in 40% new 228ltr medium toast Vosges and Allier for 10 months.

"Quite a different take on the Artus is this more classically defined modern expression of the variety. There is a pristine purity evident immediately with a floral cut lime and pear lift on the nose. Then the palate coils and tightens as it extends through to a very long finish. An elegant wine with a purity and finesse that is so appealing.’ 96pts Ray Jordan, Ray Jordan Wine.

Of the 2022 "Light yellow colour with a bouquet of oatmeal, cream, hazelnuts and smoky toasty oak undercurrents. Intense, rich palate with delicacy as well as generosity; a more ample wine than the Floris and more complex, still subtle and refined, with terrific length and precision. (Karridale fruit, Dijon clones 76 and 95; pure yeast strain; no MLF; batonnage only in tank) Drink 2023–2034" 96 pts Huon Hooke, The Real Review 20 SEP 2023

Of the 2022 "Before putting down words to describe this exceptional wine, I just kept tasting and tasting it. Oh, OK, I did drink it, being the last wine of the day. A reward, then. This is scintillating thanks to the purity of fruit, the superfine palate led by pristine acidity with a little saline twang to it. There’s texture, a light phenolic tug to the finish; this offers complexity and delicious drinking in equal measure." 96 pts Jane Faulkner, Halliday 8 AUG 2024
