The 2024 vintage growing season begun with ideal flowering conditions. Ultimately, we had good fruit set which formed into moderate yields. Cool and mild through December, one of the highest rainfalls in January on record followed (150mm), then heat and fast maturity. By February we were back into the Indian summer pattern that is common in the Yarra Valley. Ideal growing conditions - warm and dry with little disease pressure - has resulted in wines with great acidity, balance, and flavour.

Yarra Valley Wine

The Yarra Valley wine region is the most important area of wine production in Victoria today, and with its proximity to Melbourne, also the most visited in the state.
Yarra Valley is split into the Upper Yarra and the valley floor. The Upper Yarra is cooler in climate due to its elevation and coupled with younger, fertile, red soils produces most of the region’s notable varietals: Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The valley floor is warmer and has predominantly grey soils with pockets of granite and limestone.
Pinot noir has long been considered a notoriously difficult variety to grow. However, the cool climate and longer growing seasons of the Yarra Valley allow the fruit to develop full flavoured and ripe character.
Chardonnay in the past has long been associated with a deep oily, buttery style that experiences full malolactic fermentation and great amounts of oak. This style has since fallen out of favour and wine makers in the Yarra Valley have capitalized on this trend to produce leaner, acid driven Chardonnays that are closer in style to those from Burgundy.

The Wine Front – Hello, my love, I heard a kiss from you. Red magic satin playing near, too. My strawberry letter 23 to, yet another, Pinot Noir Shiraz blend below. What can I say. She’s shy. Pretty. Cherries, raspberries. Potpourri perfume. A bit earthy, a bit dusty. Pomegranate tang. Lithe and very enjoyable, juicy acidity but not fruity, flavours more on the savoury, dried leaves, forest floor side of things. Bergamot tea with red bright fruit vibes. Elegance of Pinot shines. Lovely. 10 March 2023
James Halliday – A blend of pinot noir and shiraz from the Rising vineyard in St Andrews; 100% whole bunches and matured in older oak for 10 months. A medium and bright crimson. Red and black fruits, along with crushed green peppercorns and some whole-bunch-derived aromas of dried rosemary and lavender can be found in this medium-bodied, relatively soft and easy-drinking red. 3 August 2022
