James Halliday – This excellent vintage has delivered a compelling pinot noir with plenty of colour (a bright ruby), plus loads of flavour. Perfumed with florals and a whiff of Chinese five-spice as flavours unfurl offering cherries and pips, charred radicchio with a dash of woodsy spices and dried mint. The palate stays barely in mid-weight territory with a juiciness and tang throughout led by natural acidity and fine, sandy tannins yet finishes a tad short. A minor quibble. - Jane Faulkner, 7 October 2023

Pinot Noir is dead sexy. Enigmatic, because it requires the right vineyard sites in cooler regions and is unforgiving of sloppy viticulture. Inspiring, because it does not conform to formulaic winemaking but requires imagination as much as experience. Frustrating as the slightest mistake can have disastrous consequences. When everything comes together the resultant wines are seductive, addictive and memorable. The 2022 Wide Open Road is sourced from our Mount Barker vineyard, which is exclusively clone 115. While still young plantings, a moderate crop and excellent growing conditions (cool, dry) achieved great typicity and natural acidity. We hand picked a component for whole bunch fermentation.
