Critic reviews

The Wine Front – Raised in anfora. This is a wild one. Beef pan juices with herbs, cherry and smoked paprika, a bit floral, also some more bucolic cowshed stuff happening. It’s medium-bodied, sour cherry with a bloody character, fresh though, with an excellent terracotta feel to tannin, and a stony and sappy finish of good length, some raspberry juice too. No doubt it will be polarising, though I find it quite interesting to drink. Gary Walsh, The Wine Front

Description

2022 Stoney Rise Trousseau. One of the reasons we searched high and low around Australia to find this variety to plant was that it has a great structure and a savoury finish that we think makes it perfect to accompany food. It does have some cherry, almost Pinot Noir-like, aromas but there is an underlying clove-like flavour that sends it to food-match heaven! The juice is on skins in a mix of clay and stainless for about eight days before being pressed to amphora for a short maturation. There is plenty of Turkish delight going on here, with some stewed raspberries on the palate. Fresh and juicy, great with lamb kofta. – Lou & Joe Holyman

Tasmanian Wine

The Tasmanian wine region is a cool climate region, the most southerly of all wine regions in Australia. Due to the lower temperatures, the area grows primarily Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc, with smaller plantings of Riesling, Pinot Gris and Cabernet Sauvignon.

“Having been to many wine tastings over the years, I can definitely say from a personal standpoint that Tasmanian Chardonnay and Pinot noir are always ones I look forward to trying if they are on the menu. They are almost always high calibre wines that can easily compete against what the rest of the world has to offer in these varietals.” Jason C. – World Wine.

While Tasmania makes great still wines, the exceptional Chardonnay and Pinot Noir also make for excellent sparkling wines.

More recent vintages since 2005 have been positively impacted by the effects of global warming. With slightly higher temperatures the grapes are ensured to ripen fully and produce more vibrant wine.
