About This Wine
From 100% organically grown, hand harvested Chenin Blanc, this comes from the stony, clay/schist soils of Rochefort-sur-Loire, just south of the river opposite Savennières. Unlike Thierry Germain’s vineyards in Saumur, where limestone dominates, the vineyards of western Anjou are influenced by the schist rich, volcanic soils of the Massif Armoricain. It’s geology that imparts a pungent, stony bite to the dry Chenin of this region. This was vinified in 2 to 4 year old, 400 litre casks, and is a racy, pure fruited Chenin with loads of fresh apple, green pear, lemon pith and some smoky notes reminiscent of nearby Savennières.
It’s super juicy, refreshing and spicy with terrific grip and length. Absolutely terrific Chenin for the money.
It's tightly wound, fresh and pure and very smashable. There's also more finesse than last year's wine. Plenty of energy, refreshment and value on offer here.
