Pinot Gris/Grigio
126 products
Gris and Grigio are exactly the same grape variety - its just that Gris is French and Grigio is Italian.
The rapid rise of popularity of Pinot Gris is strongly correlated with the rise and tastes of Asian cuisine in Australia. Pinot Gris is the most versatile and satisfying match with Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese and South Asian cuisines.
Over the past decade there's been a growing trend of Asian cuisine – particularly south Asia & south-east Asia - into the Australian fine dining scene. This reflects the zeitgeist of Australia in general, moving away from our association with western Europe to embracing our ties with Asia. It is exciting for diners discovering and tasting the array of spices and herbs being used now at top restaurants in Australia.
The challenge is finding a wine to pair with these flavours - kaffir lime, coriander, chilli, star anise, cardamom and lemongrass.
Pinot Gris with its oily textures and unique fruit sweetness give it the perfect palate weight to handle many of these ingredients.

World Wine – "One of Central Otago’s best examples of pinot gris, a variety that is well suited to the region. Creamy-textured with stewed pear and apple, clove, anise and bready yeast lees flavours. It’s delicately dry with an ethereal texture and lingering finish." - Australian Gourmet Traveller Wine

The Wine Front – An encouraging bronze tint to the colour. Musk perfume, peach, lychee and pear, a little spice. Juicy lychee and pear flavours, balanced acidity, some pleasing chalky texure, nice crunch and sweetness on the finish. Lovely. Fine balance. Easy to enjoy. A very strong release.

World Wine – Ripe, fruity, varietal, floral and gently spicy bouquet. Aromas and flavours of white nectarine and Asian pear, yellow apple and lychee nut. A fine complex layer of tangerine and lemon peel, blossoms and white pepper add complexity and depth. Silky texture with plenty of acidity to contrast a core of fruit flavours. A gentle warming alcohol carries the flavours and textures through a lengthy finish. Excellent example in a drier style, balanced and well made. Drink now and through 2024+. 94 points.
