Wine Enthusiast – 96 Points - "Many Marlborough sauvignon blancs are made to a familiar formula; lean and green and refreshing with bright acid. This new release from Dog Point offers something just a little bit different. Certified organic, it has a little more mouthfeel, a tad more palate interest, than many of its contemporaries, while retaining its aromatic appeal. This has vibrancy, allied to some interesting palate complexity thanks to wild yeast fermentation and some whole bunch elements; a wine that demands to matched with seafood, perhaps some mussels or cockles. It is bright and lively with fresh citrus and nectarine notes. Punchy, taut and intense with well-judged acid, faint smoky hints and immediate appeal. Well worth seeking out. 96 points from me." James Suckling – "The most complex of Marlborough sauvignons is looking the goods in this warmer vintage. There's a heady reductive layer that delivers flinty grapefruit notes and lemon pith. The palate texture is superb; starts on point and builds weight and layers of texture through the mid-palate with abundant gooseberry and lime flavor, then finishes pure, focused and true."

World Wine – How to describe this Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough's Catalina Sounds? Herbaceous! Pineapple sage and cut herbs spill from the glass with gooseberry and green capsicum. There is a whisper of passionfruit with green melon skipping through late. Well made and well balanced, it's clean and crisp with refreshment bursting at the seams. Drink now. qwinereviews.com, 15 August, 2021

Huon Hooke – Gentle, moderately soft sauvignon blanc with passionfruit, lemongrass, red capsicum, guava, ginger and citrus flavours. There was 30% fermented in large French oak casks to build texture and complexity. The wine certainly has good weight and a silken texture. (Bob Campbell, The Real Review, 7 July, 2021)

Originating from the Bordeaux region of France, Sauvignon Blanc has since traveled the globe, gracing vineyards from New Zealand to California, each region imparting its unique signature. Characterized by its high acidity and aromatic vivacity, Sauvignon Blanc is often likened to a breath of fresh air. On the nose, it might remind one of fresh-cut grass, gooseberry, or even passion fruit. Depending on the region and the winemaking technique, its flavor profile can range from zesty lime to lush tropical fruits. It's not just a summer drink but a year-round companion to many cuisines. Pairing splendidly with seafood, salads, or goat cheese, this wine complements food by adding a zingy freshness. Its inherent versatility also means it can be crafted into a range of styles, from bone-dry to sweet late harvest versions. Such diversity ensures that there's a Sauvignon Blanc for every palate and occasion. As you pour a glass, let its aromas whisk you away on a journey across vine-clad hills and sun-dappled valleys, celebrating the global spirit of this beloved varietal.
Sauvignon Blanc is a vivacious white grape variety originating from the Bordeaux region of France. Over time, it has garnered international acclaim and spread to various corners of the wine-producing world. Renowned for its distinctive aroma profile, Sauvignon Blanc typically exhibits notes of green and black fruits, freshly cut grass, and often a characteristic note of bell pepper or, in some regions, passion fruit. Its high acidity ensures a crisp, refreshing finish, making it a sought-after choice for white wine enthusiasts and those looking for a spirited palate refresher.
While the grape finds its roots in Bordeaux, regions like New Zealand's Marlborough have truly placed Sauvignon Blanc on the global stage. These Kiwi wines are celebrated for their explosive aromatics and zesty citrus flavors. In its homeland, the Loire Valley, particularly in appellations like Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, Sauvignon Blanc achieves a minerality and depth that are much lauded. Napa Valley, with labels like Cakebread and Frog's Leap, showcases a riper, more fruit-forward style of this dynamic varietal.
The apex of Sauvignon Blanc largely depends on personal preference, given the grape's diverse expressions. For those who love razor-sharp acidity and mineral undertones, wines from Sancerre, like those from Domaine Vacheron or Pascal Jolivet, are top-tier. If a more pronounced tropical fruit expression is desired, look no further than New Zealand's Cloudy Bay or Dog Point. And for a harmonious blend of New and Old World styles, Napa Valley's Spottswoode offers a Sauvignon Blanc that is both lush and invigorating.
The zesty and aromatic nature of Sauvignon Blanc makes it a delightful companion for a range of dishes. Its high acidity and pronounced flavor profile pair wonderfully with fresh seafood like oysters, ceviche, or grilled shrimp. Goat cheese, especially the classic French Chevre, is a match made in heaven with this varietal. Furthermore, its herbaceous notes complement dishes featuring green herbs, asparagus, or green salads. For those indulging in spicier fare, the tropical nuances of a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc can beautifully counterbalance the heat of Thai or Mexican dishes.
