About this Wine

Summary: Bare, in its most fundamental, means laid out for all to see. That’s the joy of these three wines from three celebrated winemakers in three distinct regions. The Bare Winemakers celebrates wines made in a ‘less is more’ fashion by artisan winemakers from celebrated South Australian regions including the McLaren Vale, Adelaide Hills’ and the Limestone Coast.

Winemaking: Sourced from a 23yr old single vineyard located in the Adelaide Hills. The Vineyard is planted to low yielding Bernard 95 and 96 clones as well as I10V1. Hand picked, whole bunch pressed, with only free run juice taken for this wine. Pressed straight to oak where it was fermented on full solids. This wine spent 3 months on yeast lees and six months in large format old French oak barrels

Tasting Note: Cool Climate Chardonnay with aromatics of white stone fruits and grapefruit peel. The palate is rich with white peach, green apples and balanced mid palate texture and toast. Subtle oak frames the fruit, crisp and crunchy green apple acidity freshens the palate and provides line and length. Pair with Prawn and Saffron Rissotto.

Adelaide Hills

The Adelaide Hills is one of the largest geographical wine regions in Australia, and amongst the most diverse in terms of climate, soil and topography. Because of this, many different varietals are planted here with the most dominant being Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. It is generally thought of as a cooler region, especially when compared to neighbouring Barossa to the north and Mclaren vale and Langhorne Creek to the south.

NZ Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc has been popular in Australia for a while now, but Adelaide hills Sauvignon Blanc (the most planted grape in the region) could be considered the Aussie Savvy Blanc. From www.adelaidehillswine.com.au about their Sauvignon Blanc: “Wines that are textured, edgy, vibrant and dry with exceptional fruit definition, length and crispness that marry superbly with summer seafood.”

You can also find some cool climate shiraz from the Adelaide hills, defying the more common big bold style that is usually seen in Australian Shiraz.
