The Wine Front – That’s a quite bright and light-ish ruby, wasn’t expecting that. Sweet black cherries, red plums, rose water top note, whiffs of black liquorice. But also light sourness of cranberries, bitter-sweet herbs, a hint of coffee and cloves with cherry blossom lingering in the back. Enjoyable lightness throughout, except for a little heady finish. It’s a good drink overall. - Kasia Sobiesiak
James Halliday – Crushed and fermented cool; seasoned French oak for 12 months. The gentle vinification has rendered a relatively pale colour, but that is a ruse, with ample flavour evident on the nose and confirmed by the palate. Cherries, black and ripe red, and raspberries feature, along with redcurrant jelly, a sprinkling of celery salt and a dusty kick of earth. There’s fleshy and fruitful intent on the palate, but cool, fine tannins and perky acidity provide an assertively fresh foil. - Marcus Ellis

STORY
Scylla was the legendary monster that lived opposite her counterpart Charybdis in the Strait of Messina, the channel of water between Calabria and Sicily – where Nero d’Avola originates. The idiom “between Scylla and Charybdis” has come to mean the lesser of two evils.
TASTING NOTE
Perfumed, floral and elegantly light bodied. Expressive of violet, bright cherry, red currant and pomegranate. Delicate spice, hints of bramble and green peppercorn pique interest, while silky tannins surround crunchy acidity, yielding to a soft yet poised finish.
WINEMAKING
Destemmed and crushed to 2 tonne open fermenters. Pumped over twice daily with temperatures kept cool between 20 and 24˚C, to ensure a soft tannin structure and retain perfumed aromatics. After pressing, the wine was transferred to 100% seasoned French oak hogshead barrels for natural malolactic fermentation and 12 months maturation. Regular lees stirring was carried out during barrel maturation to increase the plushness of the palate. The final wine was bottled without fining and received light filtration.
VINEYARD
Lopresti Ridgehaven Vineyard - Hahn Road, Sellicks Hill, McLaren Vale.
Located at the southern end of McLaren Vale between Sellicks Hill and Willunga on the foothills of the Mount Lofty Ranges. The site is defined by heavy clay loam soils with shattered gravel throughout the profile, over Christies Beach formation. A north-westerly aspect captures ample sunlight and warmth, encouraging soft and plush tannins, while cooling sea breezes and gully winds ensure cool nights to retain vibrancy and aromatics in the fruit.
