James Halliday – "From the earliest plantings (in 1987) of the estate. It begins piling on points with the bright, clear colour, and doesn’t stop with the bouquet of blackcurrant, bay leaf and airy spices, then flowing on in elegant, medium-bodied mode to a perfectly balanced and mouth-watering finish. Something quite special in its Margaret River context." - James Halliday, The Australian

The Wine Front – Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front “Smells good. Smoky and floral at once. The palate is faithful to this tune, adding cherry and boysenberry flavours, dried herb notes in there too. This is a wine that feels fleshy and textural in a soft way. It’s not abbreviated on the finish but the tannin pulls the even flow of it up a fraction. It remains enjoyable. Smoked flowers, that was what I kept smelling and tasting. It’s good all round. Pretty.”

The Wine Front – Great to see a wine that delivers such a robust amount of flavor and perfume, without losing structure and drinkabilty. It’s a have your cake and eat it wine! Strange thing to say, but close your eyes, and you could almost imagine a Pinot Noir. There’s a good deal of high quality oak laying down sweet spiced biscuits and perfume over white cherries and plum, nectarine, and aniseed too. Medium weight, with juicy ruby red grapefruit acidity and flavour, distinctly flinty and delightful texture, offering a heady mix of restraint and power. Finish is long, spicy and crisply mouth-watering. Great Chardonnay, and I suspect, there’s more to come.

James Halliday – ‘An effortless wine that has power but doesn’t feel as if it’s been ‘made’ or forced in any way. Subtle stone fruits, spice and a mineral note that follows onto the palate which is simultaneously generous yet restrained; the acidity in total harmony with the fruit. In a word – lovely’

James Suckling – This may be the finest Australian nebbiolo yet tasted. A bright mid-crimson, shifting to a detailed spread of vigorous red fruit accents, hints of ironstone, dried thyme and lilac. Gorgeous stuff. Mid-weighted of feel such is the pixelated detail, levity and brightness in the mouth. A testament to the oft-used notion that nebbiolo bares considerable similarities to pinot noir. I could drink a great deal of this such is the structural compression and rivulet of pure, sumptuous fruit. Exquisite! Drink or hold.

James Suckling – "Aromas of sliced strawberries, pitted red cherries, white pepper, grated nutmeg and rosemary stem. Medium- to full-bodied with fine, textural tannins. Transparent and clear with pretty red fruits and berries washing over the palate with lovely definition and drive. Vibrant and bright. Excellent finish. Best after 2024." - James Suckling
Huon Hooke – "Medium-depth purple-red colour with a reserved but fragrant bouquet of red fruits and floral overtones, a note of blackberry pastille, a subtle lacing of fresh herbs, and a sheen of firming tannins coating the palate from start to finish. Long and promising: a very smart grenache." - Huon Hooke
or $73.14 in any mix of 12 bottles.
The Wine Front – "Quite a meaty scent, shiitake mushroom, truffle too, some minty lift, pretty exotic spice notes too with dark cherry the mainstay of fruit character. Silky texture, quite light on overall but a better word is understated and lively in a subtle mode. That equals charm. Nice grip to fine, lacy tannin profile too, and feels pure and refreshing to drink. Good gear, is the message." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
James Suckling – "A translucent ruby. The mouthfeel barely nudges mid-weight. Yet there is something rather beautiful about this. Subtle aromas of red cherry, ume, peony and musk burn with an incendiary glow, casting an initial awkwardness and the vegetal whiff of whole bunches aside as the wine opens with air and the trajectory of fruit sweetness grows. Nothing trop, mind you. Everything in good measure. The tannins, detailed. The freshness, contagious. This is a pinot brimming with charm and the capacity for haunting complexity with mid-term cellaring. Drink or hold." - Ned Goodwin MW (jamessuckling.com)

James Halliday – "... I love the transparency of the Barossa’s cooler seasons, in such articulate detail here that all 4 varieties are clearly visible in all their glory. Unashamedly medium bodied, refreshing and enticing, yet in no way underpowered, simplistic or short lived. Crunchy berry fruits, fine-ground tannins and vibrant acidity unite to marvellous effect and outstanding line and length. It takes some skill, dexterity and humility in the winery to allow fruit of such elegance to really sing. A classic Barossa blend with a long future before it.” 13 AUGUST 2021 - Tyson Stelzer, Halliday Wine Companion
Huon Hooke – This blend of shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and merlot has a track record of consistency, and ages beautifully. It’s labelled Barossa, a zone that embraces Eden Valley as well as Barossa Valley proper. It certainly tastes like a Henschke Eden Valley red, with tell-tale raspberry and sage among various dried-herb and spice aromas, floral and earthy nuances too. It’s deliciously fruit-sweet, almost lush in the mouth, the masses of fine, subtly drying tannins keeping the finish and aftertaste neat and disciplined. A lovely wine, approachable already but certainly built to last and will be reward even a few years in the cellar. (Screwcap)

Wine Enthusiast – "A wine which honours the significant contribution of Dr Harold Olmo in the early stages of the new era of the WA wine industry. It’s a blend of cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon and malbec. In this case it has the highest proportion of cabernet franc ever used in the blend. Has a beautiful lift of red fruit on the nose with leafy graphite nuances. Medium weight but with highly concentrated fruit. Rolls majestically across the palate with fine chalky tannins and the perfect tuned oak supporting through to a long finish." - 97 points, Ray Jordan, WinePilot.com, April 2024.

James Halliday – Grenache Bush vines planted in 1946 on a deep sandy dune. Hand-picked and sorted, with 50% whole berries for a wild ferment. Perfumed rose petals and wild strawberries, the palate bursts with energy and drive, all in a red spectrum.
James Suckling – A beautiful opening act from a splendid source of quality McLaren Vale grenache. Notes of dried rose petals, spruce and kirsch. A little hard, rustic and ferrous at the end, although nothing a stiff decant or a short stint in the cellar can’t remedy. From biodynamically grown grapes.

James Halliday – CAMPBELL MATTINSON - HALLIDAY'S WINE COMPANION It's just got that extra linger of flavour. It's a smooth river of licorice, black cherry, sweet spice and deli meat characters and when combined with supple texture, fine-grained tannin and floral highlights it marks itself as just a little bit special.
