Additionally, there is an earthy, crushed limestone quality that also seems specific to this expression. The tannins are hard and firm, setting this wine up for a longer drinking window. Decanter – "Maria Grazia Giacosa today runs this 5ha estate with her son, Luca. The filigreed elegance of Asili is almost always enhanced by the respectful winemaking style of the producer. This 2019 shines for its classy nose of watermelon and tar, cherry kernel and cinnamon, interchanging fruit and sweet spice. On the palate the graphite minerality gives personality and depth. It displays lively acidity and biting, extracted tannins; youthful, grainy but ripe. A wine of great personality with more volume and ability to age compared to 2018."

James Suckling – Some candied-berry, watermelon and dried orange-peel character. Medium body, creamy tannins and a fresh and focused finish. Drink in 2024 and onwards.

Wine Enthusiast – Capturing the freshness and finesse of the vintage, this has classic varietal aromas of rose petal, forest berry, camphor and underbrush. Reflecting the nose, the vibrant, focused palate delivers ripe red cherry, crushed raspberry, wild mint and star anise set against taut, refined tannins. Bright acidity keeps it balanced. The wine is streamlined and tight with forest berry, blackcurrant and spice. It is taut and silky, showing fruit that has been shaped by cool nights and warm days. Robert Parker/Wine Advocate – Outer quote mark The Cavallotto 2016 Barolo Riserva Vignolo is an organic wine that shows superb balance and great intensity. Elegance and power are in fact the twofold hallmark of this iconic vintage. This is a polished and silky wine with an almost glossy or latex-like quality to its tannins (that I love, by the way). James Suckling – This may be the finest Australian nebbiolo yet tasted. A bright mid-crimson, shifting to a detailed spread of vigorous red fruit accents, hints of ironstone, dried thyme and lilac. Gorgeous stuff. Mid-weighted of feel such is the pixelated detail, levity and brightness in the mouth. A testament to the oft-used notion that nebbiolo bares considerable similarities to pinot noir. I could drink a great deal of this such is the structural compression and rivulet of pure, sumptuous fruit. Exquisite! Drink or hold.
