Hay Shed Hill Chardonnay 2016
The wine displays fresh green tinges on a pale straw colour. The nose exhibits aromas of fresh cut pear and honey dew melon with some zesty citric notes. There are no overt woody or buttery aromas with the primary fruit characters expressed with clarity and definition. The palate is fresh and lively with clean crisp acidity complementing the vibrant fruity flavours. The palate has very good extension and ends clean and bright. This is a restrained style of Australian Chardonnay and highlights how far we have come with this style of wine over the last decade.

The Wine Front – If you wanted to offer a bell clear example of Australian chardonnay flavour – harder to find, ironically, than could reasonably be expected – then this release from Hay Shed Hill could well be Exhibit A. It’s sunny, it drips with sweet pear-like flavour, it’s boosted by a bite of grapefruit and it’s fleshed out, and made more accessible, by a coating of spicy, cedar wood oak. It doesn’t skimp on the fruit, and it doesn’t skimp on the oak, and yet both are nestled in among one another, and a keen freshness is maintained throughout. The long and the short of it is: it tastes damn good.
