Pierro Chardonnay 2016
The bouquet shows some intense cedary oak while the palate is tightly coiled, intense, wonderfully concentrated, with a fine line of bright natural acidity on a clean finish of significant length. There is a purity of fruit - especially grapefruit, white peach, white nectarine - tightness and power. The finish has that wonderful dry quality that is a hallmark of outstanding chardonnay. It will improve with impeccable cellaring: monitor its development and enjoy the journey.
The Wine Front – ou could probably mount a case for Pierro making the best Chardonnay in Margaret River over the past few years, or at least one of the best. I don’t like to be dogmatic about anything other than the use of new barriques in Barolo. It’s pretty young. It’s best days are before it. In-between days, we do our best to call it. Pie apple and pear, cinnamon oatmeal, lime, white flowers and vanilla. Medium bodied, silky delivery of Chardonnay flavour, so fine yet rich, gentle dusting of peppery tannin, discreet but firm acidity, that vanilla oatmeal creaminess, and then a finish that tightens up with a mix of apple and mixed citrus. The length is outstanding. Wonderful wine.
