James Halliday – Sourced from the outstanding Cooinda Vale vineyard in Campania, Coal River Valley; 15% whole bunch, 11 months' maturation in French oak, 30% new. Bright ruby with aromas of red cherry, redcurrant and red plum cut with hints of fine spice, amaro, crushed rock, leaf litter, char siu, game meats, distant truffle and earth. The Pooley wines are so beautifully composed and calm. There is a real sense of grace on the palate, its travel long, true and balanced, its drinkability and elegance undisputed. – Dave Brookes
