About this Wine

Brave and super cool. Californian Syrah often knocks a grown man down, but Duncan Arnot and Nathan Roberts have chosen to go a different route with the grape. From Clary Ranch, they get Syrah grown in environments that are just on the verge of being too cold. As a result, the fruit grows slowly and is harvested as late as mid-November. The sugar content in the grapes is also lower than usual, which keeps the alcohol level somewhat lower than what we usually see. And that's not so bad at all.

The bunches are pressed whole and the wine matures for 10 months in neutral French oak barrels. The result is a wine with a deep, purple color and a rich aroma of dark cherries, blackberries, boysenberries, plus notes of violets, pepper, cocoa and dried spices. The taste is concentrated, but in full balance and dominated especially by dark cherries, plums, black pepper and a touch of vanilla from the barrel.

According to the two creators, the wine is made to be drunk young, while the other Syrah wines are left to mature in the cellar. The advice is hereby passed on.
