James Halliday – "Hand-picked in the early morning, whole-bunch pressed, cool-fermented in tank and barrel, then in traditional method in bottle. It is cruising along peacefully, its crisp acidity underpinning the richness developed during 9 years on yeast lees prior to disgorgement. Spice, dried and fresh fruits provide texture and flavour." James Halliday
World Wine – A complex style that contrasts the savoury complexity of charcuterie with the fleshiness of juicy stone fruits, the character of dried pear and the tension of vibrant citrus. A succulent generosity fills the mid-palate, with the biscuity complexity of barrel fermentation and lees age, culminating in the refreshing tension of Pipers River. It finishes long and full, with the generosity of a warm, dry and low-yielding season. Australian Sparkling Report 2017
Wine Spectator –
Robert Parker/Wine Advocate – Color: Garnet with brick-red glints. Nose: Scents of garrigue, moving after several years of aging with aromas of stone fruits (plums), leather, fur and underbush. Palate: Cinnamon, pepper, meat Dapple. The development provides complex and spicier notes. Serve: Game, stews, truffle omelet and some bleu cheese.
World Wine – The NV Extra-Brut Cuvée No. 742 (2014 base) has really opened up since I last tasted it about a year ago. The Pinot is so expressive in the No. 742, a Champagne built on texture and resonance. Dried pear, dried flowers, plum and spice fill out the wine's frame effortlessly, but the 742 truly shines with a bit of air, which seems to accent its freshness. Readers looking for a fine grower Champagne to drink now will find much to like. The blend is 59% Pinot Noir (from Aÿ, Dizy and Hautvillers) and 41% Chardonnay (from Avize and Oiry). Disgorged January 2019. Dosage is 1.5 grams per liter. 94 points. Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media August 2020
James Suckling – Mesmerizing aromas of flowers, bark, currants and blackberries. So perfumed. You just want to smell it. Exquisite tension and finesse with an almost Burgundian texture, yet it’s Napa in its soul with ripe fruit, stones, spices and Chinese tea leaf flavors. Savory and delicious.
