About this Wine

Our Sangiovese is grown on the ancient Cambrian soils of the Camelback Range in Colbinabbin, Heathcote. These deep, mineral-rich soils—formed over 500 million years ago—provide a strong foundation for vine health and flavour concentration. The 2023 season in Heathcote was warm and relatively dry, leading to an earlier harvest and beautifully even ripening across the vineyard. The result is fruit with vibrant intensity, balanced natural acidity, and fine structural detail.

This vintage spent 18 months in barrel, allowing the wine to settle into itself and build complexity without losing its brightness. It opens with lifted aromas of red cherry, wild raspberry, and spiced plum, layered with savoury notes of dried herbs, tomato leaf, and a gentle earthiness. Subtle oak spice sits quietly in the background, while the tannins are fine, chalky, and structured—giving the wine its classic Sangiovese shape and a long, savoury finish.

This is a wine made for the table. It pairs effortlessly with dishes like slow-cooked lamb ragu, wood-fired pizza with fennel sausage, or eggplant parmigiana. It’s equally at home alongside a generous antipasti spread of salami, prosciutto, olives, and hard cheeses—simple food, shared well.

Enjoy now for its vibrancy, or cellar through to 2034 as it develops further depth and savoury nuance.

Heathcote Wines

The Heathcote wine region in central Victoria is well known for its excellent red wines, most notably Shiraz. Heathcote reds are defined by their inky depth of colour, and deep, dark complex fruit flavours. This is combined with well balanced tannins and acid that help to give the wines great cellaring potential.

All this is made possible by the terroir. The Heathcote region sits at between 160m and 380m elevation with a temperate climate of even rainfall. The soils are rich in calcium red soils made up of “greenstone”. These soils are prized for their water retention capabilities allowing them to drain freely but still hold enough water throughout the growing season. The grapes that result are small and concentred which in turn make rich concentrated wines.
