Robert Parker/Wine Advocate – There is unusual and unexpected freshness in the 2017 Martinet Bru, produced from three vineyards planted with different varieties that co-fermented in concrete. It matured in oak foudres and barriques (25%), with a few months at the end in terracotta amphorae. It's very relaxed and harmonious, approachable but not banal, with fine tannins. 40,000 bottles produced.

Mas Martinet, with its roots deeply embedded in Spain's rich viticultural history, is renowned for producing wines of remarkable depth and character. Their forte lies in crafting red wines that encapsulate the spirit and essence of the Priorat region. Predominantly, they are recognized for their wines made from Garnacha and Cariñena grapes. These wines often showcase a harmonious blend of intense fruit flavors, complemented by the earthy minerality distinctive to the region's unique llicorella soil. Over time, Mas Martinet has consistently displayed mastery in balancing power with elegance, making their wines stand out in tastings and competitions globally.
Mas Martinet wines hail from the picturesque Priorat region in Catalonia, Spain. This area, characterized by its terraced vineyards climbing steep hills, is known for its distinctive llicorella (slate) soils which contribute a unique mineral characteristic to the wines. The challenging terrain, combined with a Mediterranean climate, provides an ideal environment for grape cultivation, especially the Garnacha and Cariñena varieties that thrive there. Mas Martinet meticulously tends to its vineyards within this setting, producing wines that are an authentic representation of this esteemed region.
Over the years, several wines from Mas Martinet have garnered attention and acclaim. One standout is their "Clos Martinet", a beautiful blend showcasing Garnacha's fruitiness tempered with Cariñena's structure. Another notable mention is "Martinet Bru", an expressive wine reflecting the quintessence of its terroir with notes of ripe berries, spices, and underlying minerality. Both wines, among others from their portfolio, have received accolades from critics and enthusiasts alike, testament to the winery's dedication to excellence.
Affordability is often subjective, depending on individual perspectives. Mas Martinet wines, given their pedigree and the acclaim they've received, can be considered premium. Their wines come with a price tag that reflects the meticulous care, traditional practices, and innovative techniques employed in their creation. For connoisseurs and enthusiasts who prioritize quality, authenticity, and a deep sense of place in their wines, Mas Martinet offerings provide value that goes beyond their cost. However, for everyday consumption, some might find them on the pricier side. It's always worth noting that with wines of such caliber, you're not just buying a beverage, but a piece of the region's soul and the winemaker's passion.
