The Wine Front – Comfort wine, like falling into a plush old couch. Blueberry, dark cherry, a little coconut and nougat, some aniseed and spice. Medium to full-bodied, lavish sweet dark cherry and blue fruits, some mint and cuddly nougat oak, fresh but bold, stony tannin profile, and a juicy berry and vanilla finish. A propitious detour from the Germanic influence over yonder. A savoury, full-bodied expression founded on a structural refinement that other cultivars fail to provide in these hot parts. Old Plains ‘Alluvium’ Cabernet Shiraz 2021
Matured for 18 months in French oak barriques. Dense pitch black in colour with a deep dark red black hue. Nosing offers up blackcurrant and plum scents which mix with cedary tobacco, dried herb and spicy earth notes. Medium to full in body with a plush mouth feel, rich blackcurrant and plum fruits overlay a lingering back drop of cedary tobacco characters, dusty earth and spice. Dryish finish with slightly chalky tannins and a medium length aftertaste.
