World Wine – 100 Points - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit. “Destined for a long life, this majestic offering shows cassis, dark plum, hint of tobacco, cedar and floral aromas on the nose. The palate is packed with rich fruit intensity combined with layers of silky texture and complex flavours, wonderfully supported by perfectly pitched chalky tannins, making it sturdy and structured with a seemingly endless finish. World Wine – The 2017 vintage was one of the milder vintages in WA. The latest Moss Wood captures this vintage perfectly and is without doubt one of the more restrained and tightly framed Moss Woods of recent years. Not the opulence of 2014 or the firm power of the 2016. Yet it retains the elegance, perfume and soft approachability that is Moss Wood. And hidden within is a wine that I suspect will be still drinking beautifully in 30 years. Make sure you decant it even now before drinking. 97/100 Ray Jordan (Best drinking: Now to 2050)

hh96

Huon Hooke – Deep red colour with a purple tinge. The bouquet is shy and closed, with some char-oak aromas plus blackberry, violet and other black fruits, the palate full-bodied and savoury, well-endowed with savoury, fine-grained tannins which run the full length of the palate. A stunning wine in the making. It's all about potential. Must cellar for best results. 96 points - Huon Hooke

James Halliday – "From the oldest plantings on the estate, fermented in French oak, matured for 12-14 months before a barrel selection for this wine, which is one of the best produced in the Eden Valley as a whole. It has fluid grace and effortless power, the fruit flavours at the midpoint of the stone fruit (white peach)/citrus (grapefruit) spectrum. Lovely wine. 14% alc".

James Halliday – "A wine with long fingers and arms. It was grown on a single block of shiraz, planted in '73. It eats elegance for breakfast, berried fruit for lunch, herb and wood spice notes for afters. Plum, char, smoked herbs, fresh red cherries, a slip of creamy/smoky oak. The balance of this wine is an experience in itself. Best of all: it pushes out gloriously through the finish." - Campbell Mattinson (Halliday Wine Companion)

Wine Spectator – Intense, with dried orange peel, nectarine, apricot and kumquat notes laced with a vibrant green tea edge. The long finish picks up a bitter almond hint for added tension, while the unctuous fruit sails through. This is still very youthful and densely packed, so no rush at all. Muscat de Frontignan.

World Wine – Bright, youthful blended red of cabernet sauvignon (52%), merlot (33%) and cabernet franc (15%). This is classic Coleraine with cassis, cedar, floral, blueberry, a suggestion of wood-smoke, anise and spicy oak flavours. Terrific depth and an exquisite balance between fruit sweetness and acid/tannin structure. It will be a long-distance runner. Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review, 14 March, 2020

hh98

Huon Hooke – Very deep, concentrated, bright purple/red colour. The bouquet is exquisite with a multitude of black fruits, blueberry, cassis, violet and cedar aromas, and much more besides. The detail is outstanding, as is the intensity of the palate. It’s very concentrated and powerful, firmly-structured and has tremendous persistence. The tannins are firm and abundant and will help guarantee a long life, but they are ripe and accessible and the wine is already approachable. (52% cabernet sauvignon, 33% merlot, 15% cabernet franc). World Wine – "One of the most powerful and extraordinarily intense of this illustrious line. Power of lemon zest, stone fruit and lime. One of the very best." - Ray Jordan, The West Australian

Huon Hooke – "Bright, medium to full yellow colour. A very complex bouquet of candlewax, beeswax, oatmeal and smoky-toasty cashew nut and roasted almond. Grapefruit and other citrus flavours in the mouth. The wine is beautifully intense and complex, restrained and refined as well as concentrated and elegant, the long-lasting finish showing great balance and harmony. An absorbing wine of great bouquet and flavour, with the full array of chardonnay complexities. The aftertaste seems never-ending." - Huon Hooke, The Real Review

James Halliday – "Follows Bailey Carrodus's method of co-fermenting small amounts of viognier, marsanne adding floral notes, and mataro adding spice. It's another exquisite wine from '17, capturing all the senses immediately you assess the bouquet and palate. It's only just into medium-bodied territory, but it's mouthwatering in its intensity, red fruits flying high like a gaudy scarlet kite." - James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)

James Halliday – "96 Points. Fruit from eight vineyards across the Barossa and Eden valleys, anywhere from 10-60% whole bunches depending on the batch, 3 weeks on skins and all French oak, 45% new. The wine stands out. Spice, fruit, pepper and wood smoke flavours explode onto the palate and ramp the seduction from there. It's both supple and fresh, but the fruit power is obvious. In short, it's really good. 14.5% alc. To 2034. - Campbell Mattinson, Halliday Wine Companion 2020.

The palate is juicy and ripe, fresh and clean and bright, with delicious lemon and herb and a compelling juiciness. It's fresh, youthful, reserved and not at all austere or tight. The Wine Front – Grapefruit, quince, guava, green chilli, a touch of cream and smoke. Good delivery and intensity of flavour, a gentle gloss to it, but a wonderful flinty texture too, with intensity moving up a notch on the finish, which is precise and chalky. Great expression of Sauvignon. Smashed it!

World Wine – Wild yeast fermented in a concrete tank, though a portion goes into barrel. Bottled without fining and with limited filtration. Almost always a handy wine, this one. This has body. It has flavour. It's almost plump with fruit. And yet it slides down to an elegant, gravelly, throaty finish. A bit of style, without getting ahead of itself. Puts dinner on the plate first and only thereafter works at prettying it up, so to speak.
