The Wine Front – Interesting tasting this alongside the 2017 Kooyong Massale. Seems the wines (much like the Chardonnay wines) are made in a very similar fashion – low new oak (10-15%), a smattering of whole bunch, a bit of foudre action etc. etc. – so what you are getting is more about the fruit that goes in, rather than the interference of winemaking. Or, at least, I think that’s the intent. And to this end, the wines are kind of similar, but with some differences. Fascinating. As an aside, my nine year old son loved the label on this wine. If I ordered this in a restaurant or fancy bistro, I’d be very happy with my choice: it’s a great drink. A little perfume, raspberry and cherry, whole bunch sap and spice as a seasoning. Medium bodied at most, fresh and juicy, bursting with spiced red fruits and blood orange, a stony feel with fine emery tannin, and a convincing finish. Beauty.
